with children
Mr Long-Arm was a workshop process undertaken at the O’Connor Co-Operative Early Childhood School, August-September 2009.
It was the result of one of the inaugural Artist-In-Schools Residency funded by artsACt, rolled out by the Federal Government (pilot programme). Mr Long-Arm wakes up one morning to find his arm has grown SO BIG that it leaves the house to explore and reveal surprises in his outside environment. The project was set up to explore the way artistic expression can amplify and enlarge ordinary, everyday experience.
The children were taken through a series of stepped learnings in seeing, sensing, feeling, and then expressing their sensory experience via movement, breath-work, drawing, puppet-making and finally performance.
